“Abby” had a horrible start to the year! Being away from friends and having to learn online was definitely taking a toll. She didn’t know how to access the support she needed from her teachers and so she began to fall behind in her studies. Then she had to deal with the devastating loss of two members of her family to COVID-19. The isolation and losses were unbearable and left her feeling hopeless. “Abby” felt there was no reason to go on and she attempted suicide. Fortunately, her mom found her and helped her to find a safe haven at Waymakers.
Waymakers provided “Abby” with the counseling and support services she needed to begin putting her life back together. She learned coping skills to address her depression and anxiety and has learned the importance of the support and love of her family. She is back in school and on track to graduate with her friends. Abby has regained hope and looks forward to a bright future.
