Controller
Accounting - Corporate – Irvine. F/T, Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.
Responsibilities Include:
Accounting Department Operations
- Responsible for management, oversight and performance of the daily operations of the Accounting Department staff; development and implementation of departmental operating procedures.
- Ensure standard accounting procedures and principles are applied to all processes and in the development of financial information and reports
Month-end Close and Reporting
- Ensure accurate and timely month-end and year-end closes.
- Ensure all financial reporting deadlines are met including reports to funders.
- Analyze financial data and prepares financial reports.
- Maintain the investment schedules, monitors investment activities and performs the monthly reconciliation for all investment accounts.
- Responsible for timely preparation and filing of 1099s, property tax forms and corporate filing forms.
- Assist the Chief Financial Officer with special projects as assigned including financial analysis.
Internal Controls
- Maintain GAAP and all other accounting requirements; ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.
- Establish, modify, document and coordinate the implementation of all accounting and internal control tasks.
Audit and Compliance
- Oversee and prepares the Accounting Department for the annual financial audit, funder compliance audits, 401K Retirement Plan Audit and IRS Form 990 Returns (and state and local forms).
- Ensure legal and regulatory compliance regarding all financial functions including federal guidelines for contracts and grants, etc.
- Responsible for following up on any new regulations and requirements, presenting them to the Chief Financial Officer, and preparing the department for implementation.
- Maintain Audit calendar and related Audit schedules.
- Keep accurate restricted funds tracking and ensure adequate control.
Management of Accounting Department
- Participate in the recruitment, supervision, training, evaluation, and discipline of direct reports.
- Oversee accounting systems and procedures, and the ability to plan, organize, direct and evaluate the work of employees.
- Facilitate professional development and training for direct reports.
General
- Serve as a member of the Management Team contributing to planning, development, and overall functioning of the agency.
- Keep the Chief Financial Officer informed of accounting department activities and issues.
- Maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and all Waymakers staff.
- Assist supervisor, co-workers, department staff, and agency employees as needed or assigned.
- Promote the best interests of Accounting Department and the agency.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Requirements Include:
- Bachelors degree, Masters preferred.
- 5-7 years related experience with emphasis in accounting and financial management.
- Experience in a multi-funded non-profit agency preferred.
- Knowledge of accounting, computer technology, and general business management.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, analytical ability, and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent computer skills in Excel and Microsoft Word.
Salary Range: $115,000 - $130,000 annually
