Sexual Assault Volunteer Advocate

Assist in providing services to survivors of sexual assault/abuse and their families to help reduce the trauma associated with a crime. Respond to hotline calls and/or provide on-scene advocacy at hospitals.

Skills and Qualifications: Must be able to communicate with empathy and concern. Be patient, non-judgmental and able to demonstrate sensitivity to the cultural/ethnic diversity of the service population. All volunteers must attend the 48-hour training on all aspects of rape and sexual assault, crisis intervention, listening skills, cultural diversity and sexual assault and specific populations. As required by the state of California, volunteers must attend volunteer meetings for on-going training to maintain their certification.

Hours: Volunteer counselors work at least two on-call shifts each month. Monday through Friday shifts are 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 a.m. the following morning. Weekend shifts are 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. or 8:00 p.m. – 8:00 a.m.
