VICTIM ADVOCATE (OCSD)
VAP – Santa Ana (OC Sheriff's Dept.) F/T, Monday - Friday, 8 am - 5 pm. Must be available for on-call rotation for 24-hour response and emergency calls. Some weekend and overnight ride-along shifts may be required.
Responsibilities Include:
- Assistance to victims of violent crimes to include domestic violence, stalking, sexual assault, and elder abuse to mitigate the impact of victimization and/or during the case investigation and court appearance.
- Provide crisis intervention, short term counseling, referrals and accompaniment services.
- Work in partnership with the District Attorney's office and law enforcement. Service provision will include victims that are part of underserved populations including, but not limited to, homeless, dependent adult, and elder populations.
Requirements Include:
- Bachelor's Degree in behavioral science, criminal justice, or related field and basic knowledge of the criminal justice system, family dynamics, sociological aspects of family violence and victimology.
- Two years of related experience working with people in a position involving the provision of victim services, peer counseling, or equivalent social skills.
- Must pass background investigation.
- Complete 48-hour state certified sexual assault counselor training and certified Domestic Violence Counselor training within first six months of employment.
- Valid California driver’s license, liability insurance meeting minimum state requirements, and a satisfactory driving record.
- Some weekend and overnight ride-along shifts may be required.
- Must be available for 24-hour response and emergency calls.
- Bilingual English/Spanish required.
Starting pay range: $22.45 - $23.52 per hour
