VICTIM ADVOCATE (Law Enforcement Based Victim Advocacy Unit – La Habra Police Dept.)

– F/T. (Tuesday-Friday, 7am-6pm, some weekend and overnight required, ride-along shifts required).

Responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for the provision of assistance to victims of violent crimes to include domestic violence, stalking, sexual assault, and elder abuse to mitigate the impact of victimization and/or during the case investigation and court appearance.

  • Provide crisis intervention, short-term counseling, referrals and accompaniment services. Work in partnership with the District Attorney's office and law enforcement.

  • Service provision will include victims that are part of underserved populations, including, but not limited to, the homeless, dependent adult, and elder populations.

Requirements include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in behavioral science, criminal justice or related field and basic knowledge of the criminal justice system, family dynamics, sociological aspects of family violence and victimology.

  • Up to two years of related experience working with people in a position involving the provision of victim services, peer counseling, or equivalent social skills.

  • Must pass background investigation. Complete 48-hour state certified sexual assault counselor training and certified Domestic Violence Counselor training within first six months of employment. Valid California driver’s license, auto liability insurance, and a satisfactory driving record.

  • Bilingual English/Spanish required.
