BILINGUAL COMMUNITY COUNSELOR II (Huntington Beach Youth Shelter – Huntington Beach)

– F/T.  (Monday-Friday, 10am-7pm, and after-hours for crisis consult as needed).

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide individual, family and group therapy services to youth and their families at the shelter residence as well as in the family home as needed for brief after-care follow-up.

  • Services include clinical assessments with DSM 5 diagnostics, short-term therapy, behavior modification, crisis intervention, linkage to after-care supports, case management and coordination of care under the clinical supervision of a licensed professional.

  • Establish a positive working relationship with community, schools, family resource centers and other outside agencies, police and probation.

  • Provide community education and outreach over the phone, via email and at community sites and coordinate the referral process with the community to promote and market the shelter services.

Requirements include:

  • Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, social work or related field.

  • Must be registered and maintain an active associate number or license with BBS.

  • Counseling experience with adolescents and families.

  • Knowledge of theory and techniques of individual, family, and group dynamics, as well as substance abuse and victimization issues.

  • Excellent communication skills, interpersonal and organizational skills.

  • Requires current first aid and CPR certificate, health screen and negative TB test result.

  • Livescan fingerprinting and criminal records clearance and compliance with Community Care Licensing Title 22 Group Home regulations.

  • Ability to work under pressure to meet client’s needs and organizational deadlines.

  • Clear speaking and hearing essential for communication, near visual acuity essential for reading.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Physical demands include standing or walking 50% or more of the workday, and bending, twisting, lifting, climbing stairs, and stooping 50% or more of the workday.

  • Requires the ability to lift up to 25 pounds without assistance, lift greater than 25 pounds with assistance, flexion and extension of wrists and arms 80% or more of the workday.

  • Valid California driver’s license, auto liability insurance, and a satisfactory driving record.

  • Bilingual English/Spanish required.
