Diversion Counselor II

Location: Huntington Beach, CA

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 9am-6pm, 1 evening per week

Diversion Counselor II responsibilities include:

  • Intervene early with youth who are exhibiting delinquency, emotional, behavioral, and/or school issues to keep low risk youth from entering the juvenile justice system

  • Provide therapeutic and restorative justice practices, such as individual, family, and/or group counseling services and mediation

  • Services include clinical assessments, short-term counseling, crisis intervention, development and monitoring of a treatment case plan, participation in Peer Court, and linkage to behavioral health resources


Diversion Counselor II requirements include:

  • Master’s Degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or related field

  • Current registration as an intern or licensed with Board of Behavioral Sciences

  • 1-2 years of related experience

  • Counseling experience with adolescents and families preferred

  • Knowledge of theory and techniques of individual, family, and group dynamics, as well as substance abuse issues

  • Ability to establish rapport and make accurate assessment of the family needs

  • Assist the family in accessing and utilizing resources

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work with a diverse multicultural/ethnic population with sensitivity and respect

  • After hours availability based on client needs

  • Valid California driver’s license, auto liability insurance, and a satisfactory driving record

  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
