Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm

Controller responsibilities include:

  • Under the general supervision of the Director of Finance and Administration, oversee the daily operations of the Accounting Department

  • Ensure accuracy of data and compliance with accounting standards and related regulations

  • Oversee the preparation work for all audits and tax returns

  • Develop, recommend, and implement related procedures and work on special projects as assigned

  • Develop and implement departmental policies and procedures

  • Assure standard accounting procedures and principles are applied to all processes and in the development of financial information and reports

  • Maintain GAAP and all other accounting requirements

  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations

  • Oversee and prepare the Accounting Department for the annual financial audit, funder compliance audits, 401k Plan Audit and IRS/State Returns (Form 990 and accompanying state and local forms)

  • Establish, modify, document, and coordinate the implementation of all accounting and internal control tasks

  • Analyze financial data and prepare financial reports

  • Maintain investment schedules, monitor investment activities and oversee the monthly reconciliation for all investment accounts

  • Maintain endowment charts and related audit schedules

  • Manage month-end and year-end close

  • Oversee general accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, grant billing, and payroll functions

Controller requirements include:

  • Master’s Degree in Accounting/Finance or equivalent combination of Bachelor’s Degree and work experience

  • 10 plus years of progressive accounting experience; non-profit accounting experience a plus

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a controller or equivalent position

  • Advanced proficiency in accounting software; experience with AccuFund a plus

  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office and Excel

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

  • Excellent planning, organizational, analytical, and decision-making skills

  • Knowledge of non-profit GAAP accounting and financial reporting principles and practices, including fund and grant accounting compliance and reporting

  • Preference will be given to candidates with the Certified Public Accountant designation

  • Valid California driver’s license, auto liability insurance, and a satisfactory driving record
